Many women say they immediately feel relief following their abortions, but some also begin struggling emotionally weeks, months, or even years later. These women start to feel anxious, depressed, sad, or guilty.
If you struggle with a previous abortion decision, we want you to know two things. One. You have options. Two. There is healing.
What Are My Options?
If you don’t want another abortion but don’t feel ready to parent, consider making an adoption plan. Or, take a closer look at the many resources available to help you parent.
Why Would I Choose Adoption?
Making an adoption plan can be the perfect solution if you can’t parent. Adoption can be a difficult choice, but with the right plan, proper support, and counseling, it can be the best option for you and your child’s future.
Today’s adoptions are very different than before. Now, an expectant woman or birth mother selects the adoptive parents. She looks through bios of couples who share the same values as her and selects the perfect one.
She can meet them before giving birth and begin building a relationship. If she chooses an open or semi-open adoption plan, she can continue contact through letters, emails, phone calls, and personal visits.
Placing a child for adoption is free for birth parents. An adoption coordinator assists women in finding resources for prenatal care, delivery, and legal expenses. Sometimes, a woman may also receive assistance for pregnancy-related costs such as rent, utilities, maternity clothes, food, etc.
At The Center for Women, we can refer you to reputable adoption agencies who can thoroughly explain the process and answer your questions. You should never feel coerced into choosing this option, and the adoption coordinator you choose should always have your best interests at heart.
What Are the Available Resources for Parenting?
You may be surprised at the many resources available to assist parents. Parenting is challenging, but with emotional and physical support, it can be extremely rewarding. We provide many resources.
We offer several free educational opportunities to help you gain parenting skills. Plus, with every class you take, you earn points to trade for items such as diapers, baby clothes, cribs, etc.
If you need proper housing, we can assist you with referrals to maternity housing in our area.
At The Center for Women, we also have parenting support groups for both moms and dads. You will have the emotional encouragement you need to feel supported. We will also help you apply for local assistance programs.
Yes, being a parent is challenging, but it is possible with education, material resources, and assistance referrals. Unplanned doesn’t mean impossible.
